Wednesday August 29 Back to work Week

Oh well, three weeks away and lots of rest. Here are a few shots of many while we were on the road...

We installed a new hitching post fence down by the garden shed to hang things on - nice cedar rails. Now all we need are some horses to tie up to it ...

I made it out to Scotia Speedworld for an evening of racing. The Butcher Racing team is doing very well - Jarret in the #3 is leading the Bandelero group and can become the first repeat winner as he defends his title he won last year on the final race of the year...

Jarret's in the fourth row to start and ended up 3rd to protect his lead in the overall points race...

The corners hold many secrets for making progress and he plays them very well - He makes his money running low and running hard - you can't make a mistake on the track and expect to beat him ... or anyone out there for that matter - the competition is keen...

Here comes brother Cole in the Legends Division. This is Cole's first year and he is also leading the pack. The difference is that there is no age limit for these racers - and the guy in second place has been racing these cars for years and is a former champion. Cole is in the red Tiltload #5...

Both racers only have one or two races left before the season is finished. More work to do ...

We were down to Annapolis for Terry's brother Arthur's  60th birthday. Terry's  Mom Ruby lives on the very scenic Annapolis River with Ft Anne as a backdrop for fishing boats...

We spent two nights in a beautiful chalet up near Truro. It was heavenly with a great hot tub on the deck and with absolutely gorgeous weather... It was very peaceful and re-energizing... We will return ...

OK - so this is the closest we will come to finding horses for our hitching post. Perhaps a life size image just for a pose would do the trick ???

Friday August 17 2012 Sarah and AJ Visit

Sarah and Adeline came to visit on Thursday and we had a great time. She is so adorable and getting used to the camera is not an issue for her...

She got up from her nap and was ready to shoot with lots of facial expressions and grammie sure can make her smile ...

Then it was off to the deck and a trip to the pool to get cooled off...

It was so nice out we even did a stroll over to Conrad's Beach for a swim in the cooler ocean...

And then they were off to a friend's barbeque on Saturday afternoon... and gone...  She grows and changes each time we see her - and now she's almost 7 months old (on the 26th) !!!

Fun with the Grand Daughters

It's always a blast when we get to play with our granddaughters. This past Saturday we brought Norah to Grammie and Grampie's house for a sleepover. You can always tell when "The Cyclone" hits - this is perhaps unfair since she is a good cleaner upper - but her and Grammie get doing stuff and cleanup is always in the way...

Norah takes a little rest while watching her favourite stories - right now it's Dora the Explorer (with Mariana the Mermaid) and Max and Ruby...

The next day we were off to the playground after Norah picked some peas she and Grampie planted earlier in the summer - her magic key to start the car was an empty pea-pod ...

She was very busy making "mountains" with the sand. It was foggy out - but very warm. the only issue was the mosquitoes that were quite plentiful and belligerent (and hungry) ...

After getting all of the sand off in the water she had to get back in the sandbox and this is a true summer picture complete with sandy feet and a flower she picked up between her toes...

She was "King of the Castle" on the rock ...

After a trip to Tim's for some juice and a carrot muffin she was off for a nap before heading to the "Teddy Bear Picnic" complete with Pirates and all - as part of Porters Lake "Lake 'N Shore Days".

After Mommy (Lindsay) joined us we had a big supper of sliders and headed out to pick some blackberries right in our front yard. Norah loved them but ate a lot more than she picked.

Swinging on the lowest branch of the oak tree was the next thing to do ...

And then of course a quick trip to the "Dragon Cave" down behind our garden shed ...

Only one small mishap when she fell on the driveway while running. You can see the band aids on her knees ...

... and then after some yogurt - it was time to head home to see Daddy - All in all a fun filled day at Grammie and Grampies.

July 29th visit:

Our other beautiful Granddaughter Adeline Josephine ("AJ" to Grampie) was here two weeks ago and had her first taste of solid food at 6 months of age.

... but then found out it wasn't all it was cracked up to be ... but then Sarah discovered she liked the taste of another brand - and now she loves it. Sarah appreciates an older sister who also had this problem and shared learning saves a lot of testing and trying...

The girls ended their stay with a nice bath at Grammies ...

whew !!! that was too long of a post ...

Bye bye for now ...

Very first blog entry !!

Hello there! I'm trying this out to follow my brother who's been blogging from Calgary for a couple of months now... so here goes...

Same brother (Paul) came down from Calgary for this past weekend on his way to Newfoundland for a week's visit. We met at our Mother's house in  New Minas and immediately set up our blind to shoot her hummingbirds. It was pretty hot in the "fort" but we were rewarded every 15 minutes with a visit from either the male or female. There was pretty frantic shooting for 30 seconds or less, re-adjust for better sightlines/background and get ready again.

After comparing notes and swapping learnings - we talk almost daily - but it's quite nice to have an in-person gab... I learned a lot from his approach to photography.I have been shooting for years - and Paul did awhile back but then got out of it and then a couple of years ago he got back into it and now he is INTO IT... He has a lot of subject matter to choose from and is doing very well...

We visited for a couple of days, shooting daily and then headed down to our place in West Porters Lake. In Windsor we spotted this red tail hawk and got a couple of shots of him ...

As it turned out it was foggy down at our place after 3 days of great sunshine and light. We tripped up to the upper end of our lake in our outboard boat - didn't shoot anything - and got home in time to go out to supper. On coming home after supper we spotted a family of pheasants on our street and got this one (of many) out of the family of eight or so (mostly young males - just getting their colours)...

So  ... let's see what we look like...
